Urwerk Unveils UR-202S Watch

In 2011, Urwerk presents a new version of its UR-202, also famous as "The Hammerhead". Now, the bold time machine demonstrates a radical full metal body on a metal bracelet. The UR-202S was born due to the brand’s close collaboration with the high-end bracelet producer, Maspoli.

Maspoli, having cooperated with the field of haute horlogerie since 1951, worked hard to come up with the Rolls Royce of bracelets. All the components, and even the tools for bracelet manufacturing, were manufactured independently by Maspoli. The bracelet creation takes 11 separate steps to reach the top level of refinement. Each bracelet is built from 22 links, only 6 of which are identical.

The UR-202S stands out among other members of the collection due to the signature three-dimensional vertical lines on the dial. Therefore, "S" in the name of the watch stands for "Stripe".

Having recently acquired the first 5-axis CNC machine, the brand independently produces 80% of the components for the watch.

The Urwerk UR-20S2 watch boasts the brand’s patented Revolving Satellite Complication that features time with help of telescopic minutes hands. The hands are incorporated by three orbiting and revolving hour satellites and with great precision adjust their length to follow the three sectors for the minutes: 0-14, 15-44, 45-60.

The hour and minute markers are provided with SuperLumiNova treatment.

The heart of the timepiece is an automatic-winding movement - calibre UR 7.03. The 34-jewel movement, operating at a frequency of 28, 800 vibrations per hour, offers 39 hours of power reserve. Besides the Revolving Satellite Complication, the mechanism animates the moon phase indicator and the day/night indicator.

The UR-202S represents the first ever timepiece watch with fluid dynamics regulating the winding rate. Back in the 18th century, clockmakers used air friction for regulating the speed of chiming clocks. Their methods were used as the base for the method of regulating the chime rate on minute-repeater watches. The creators of the Urwerk UR-202 watches improved the idea of using air friction for controlling the rate of automatic winding.

Instead of the rotating vanes that were traditionally used in the past the watchmakers have applied the innovative miniature twin turbines. You can see these miniature air compressors spinning on the back of the timepiece. The twin turbines are linked to the winding rotor and serve as shock absorbers according to the position of the selector lever. In normal activity the turbines soften abrupt movements of the rotor, thus diminishing wear and increasing the movement’s lifetime.

The case of the Urwerk UR-202S watch (46.6mm x 43.5mm x 15mm) is rendered in white gold, red gold, polished stainless steel and AlTiN (Titanium Aluminium Nitride) stainless steel. The back is sculptured in titanium. The timepiece is 30-meter water-resistant.

Richard Mille RM 035 Watch for Rafael Nadal

In 2010, Richard Mille’s ambassador Rafael Nadal won three masters tournaments - Roland Garros, Wimbledon and Flushing Meadows. The tennis star was wearing RM 027 Tourbillon on his wrist. Now, the brand has developed another timepiece for the celebrity - the RM 035.

The new Richard Mille watch is animated by a complicated movement that weighs just 4,3 grams - the caliber RMUL1. The manual winding, skeletonized movement has become the first manual winding movement of the brand that received the Chronofiable certification.

The Chronofiable test exposes watches to accelerated ageing testing that lasts 21 days and equals to 6 months of effective wearing. The tests include checking the movement functions, an additional rate, the amplitude test fulfilled at two temperature levels -0°C and 50°C, as well as checking the power reserve and the winding velocity. The tests also imply comprehensive linear and angular accelerations and about 20,000 shocks. The tests proved the caliber’s ability to withstand extreme conditions maintaining its flawless performance.

The process of skeletonization of the movement required one year to have been completed. The PVD-treated, skeletonized baseplate sculptured in titanium, along with bridges and balance-cock of titanium Titalyt, implies perfect rigidity and surface flatness.

The 24-jewel movement, beating at 28, 800 vibrations per hour, incorporates a free sprung balance with variable inertia. The innovative balance wheel provides supreme reliability and shock-resistance. Four small adjustable weights positioned directly on the balance allow a more accurate and repeatable adjustment.

The creators of the RM 035 watch opted for magnesium-aluminum material for the case. This extremely rugged and light alloy comprises 90% magnesium and 8.9% aluminum. The surface of the case boasts great hardness and scratch-resistance, not to mention wear and corrosion resistance.

The case construction of the Richard Mille RM 035 Rafael Nadal watch is provided with two Nitril O-ring seals to guarantee 50-meter water-resistance. The case also incorporates 12 spline screws crafted in grade 5 titanium and abrasion-resistant washers in stainless steel.
