The novelty employs a 44mm x 12mm case, crafted from Damascus steel. Hard and flexible, this material was used for swords. The case is etched with “king’s water” or “aqua regia” highly corrosive acid, capable of dissolving metals like gold or platinum.
Both top and bottom of the new Cornelius & Cie watch are fitted with glare-proofed sapphire crystals. The case provides 30-meter water-resistance.
The model encloses a mesmerizing dial. It reveals an imperial dragon, rendered in solid gold. Cut out and entirely engraved by hand, it was born under the dexterous fingers of the master engraver Kees Engelbarts. The image of the dragon was also silver-plated and oxidized to further enhance its depth.
The display of the new Cornelius & Cie Chronsome 46 XY Tourbillon watch ensures central hours and minutes. The tourbillon mechanism is revealed in an opening at 9 o’clock.
Animating the functions is a hand-wound tourbillon movement. It incorporates twin barrels, which deliver a 120-hour power reserve. Embellished with 27 jewels, it runs at the rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour.
The new Cornelius & Cie watch is coupled with an alligator leather strap. It joins to a buckle in etched Damascus steel.
